Fridays @ Privilege Bar

I was walking by, when some friends outside saw me. Then they dragged me in.

Assessment Time: 8-9pm
Crowd: Asian
Music: RNB
Atmosphere: Average. It was pretty packed, mostly from the crowd who was here drinking earlier, including myself. I even spotted the organiser from the Bar Europa Fresh Fridays over here! Hmm..

Well here’s a video of Privilege at around 9pm, when the music starts to turn up:

Click here to view the embedded video.

I don’t think much happened with me here. Just some dancing with Gumboots – she’s a great dancer but in the promiscuous kinda way. Sucks she has a boyfriend.

I would only come here before 9pm when entry is free – it probably is not worth paying the entry fee after 9pm.

Cargo Bar

Walkthrough:

Click here to view the embedded video.

Trying to break into the asian circle. No joy, so I just do a kick ass dance on my own.
I am at cargo, and the crowd is mostly caucasian. I don’t know about you, but when I see a fellow asian at a white club, I can’t help but keep glancing over to see how they’re going. It would even be ideal if we could hang out. It could be something programmed within me, but that’s what I feel. So anyway, I see a bunch of asian girls. Alright! Me and my friend go in for a dance, but oh no, they’re not up for it. The girl I’m trying to dance with keeps passing me on to her friends, and vice versa.

So, I went to another area nearby and danced solo. And I kicked ass. I kicked so much ass the girls could not help but look and stare at me with awe. Oh I am so good. My kick ass dancing gets a birthday girl to randomly dance with me. That was fun, but then the DJ played a song I didn’t like, so we stopped dancing.

Trying to get fat girls to dance
I see so many of the larger girls not enjoy themselves at the club. Standing there like wallflowers. So what can I do? I can dance with them!! So, as my charity deed I actively go out to try and dance with the girls. Well, I tried to. They did NOT want to dance at all with me – why? It’s not like I’m asking for marriage. Just a dance. Most of the time they would say “I can’t dance”, but it’s bizarre. Self confidence issues? I finally managed to have a girl dance with me. But then as I wrap my arm around her back, I felt the flab, and my hand couldn’t get a grip, mostly because my fingers kept slipping in between the cracks. It was sad, but I suppose that’s why the girls wear black. It works at hiding that stuff.

Coda: An early close at 2.30am

losing my laptop – where’s lost property?

I left my laptop bag somewhere on a sofa. When it came to leave – it was no longer there. OMG someone stolen it!! My awesome photos, videos.. gone like that. I stayed behind and had to actually call management down. They had it! Thank god, I kissed my laptop and promised to never leave it again.

A friend’s farewell at Bungalow 8, then we follow on to her friend’s choice of Privilege..

Bungalow 8 – thumbs up
Was only here for about an hour. Basically danced around a bit in the small but very fun dance area. Everyone was in the mood, and the music was pretty good too. I can’t remember, I think it was house-like and upbeat.

People(mostly caucasian) were so friendly here. If the dance floor were a bit bigger it could rival Cargo.

Privilege – thumbs down
So one of the friends wanted to meet a friend at Privilege, so against our inner instincts we went. Josh made a smart choice and didn’t go in.

We paid $20 and when we got in, we were greeted with a scene, and dispersement of crowd reserved only for Pavillion Hotel at 2am. It was basically, an utter crap venue.

People weren’t as friendly. Nobody reciprocated to my barging into their circles and dancing like a lunatic. Music was blaring loud. DJ Isreal was playing. Unlucky he got a bad crowd.

Lesson: Always listen to your gut. Or just dont visit Privilege at midnight on a Friday night.

The end.

On the evening of Friday 30th May 2008..

Lining up – Funky Buddha @ Arthouse
This was probably the most heavily promoted event I had seen in a long time. I sent in a guestlist, and the poster started free entry before 11pm. We lined up… it was 10pm.

10pm – 11:45pm:
We managed to arrive ‘late’ in the line. The guestlist line at Arthouse stretched around the corner about 20 -30 metres back into TGV. Doors didn’t open until 10:45. After at least an hour and a half, we had progressed around the corner and could see the entrance, but there were so many people who had pushed in front of us by then. The lack of ribbon tape to control the line was a disadvantageous move… This was officially worse than lining up at UN / DCM Nightclub. After some delibration we knew we were not going to get in before midnight, so we left the line to walk around..

Coda:
Don’t go to opening events unless you have straight-in access or if you love lining up.

Coolabar
We walked down Pitt St and saw Coolabar, we went up for the RNB event, but saw the ‘Honey’ RNB night posters were for Saturday nights. They were playing some jazz/brazilian kind of music I think. The dancefloor looked dead from the outside. I would have to check this place out some other time. It was free entry.

Pure @ Roof Bar / Skygardens
Tonight there was no line. Our expectations dropped. We were let right in without our ID being photographed even though there was a guy sitting there with a camera waiting to take Photo ID photos. We didn’t even get scanned / frisked, even though there was a guy with the scanner, ready to scan away. Were they desperate? Our expectations dropped again.

A group of people stepped off the elevator as we got on. I asked if it was ‘good upstairs?’. They laughed. Our expectations went to an all new low.

We got off on Level 4, and had a look.. there were people! I was impressed. There were about 50 people all up in in this place.

About Pure
Occurence: Every Friday and Saturday Nights
Music: “Rnb, hip hop, slow jamz”
Crowd: Mostly Asian
Dress Code: Casual
Cover Charge / Entry Fee: Free
Atmosphere: Just enough people to make the place not empty.

Grinding someone is better than no-one
The star of tonight was Clare.. she seemed to get the attention of all the guys and girls. In particular a group of girls danced with her and I danced with her friends. The one in the red dress was really loose. She would grind right up to me, and no objections when I returned the favour. Fun times. Later in the night she had some other guy trapped on the wall, grinding him, while his friends pointed and laughed at him. Clare’s main attractor was this chick, who had somewhat some manly features. An was convinced it was a guy, but it was just a Amelie Mauresomo type of girl.

Slippery floors
Someone spilled water. The main group were some guys and girls having a ball of a time, and some had mingled with us. One of the guys stepped into the wet floor and fell flat on his face. Literally. Later in the night another guy slipped on his ass.

Atmosphere
Even though there weren’t many people.. the main group were having so much fun and going around it was slightly infectious. An and Joe K looked disappointed, as they were keen on going to Funky Buddha.

Seriously, please dont stop the music
Last time we went to Pure, the music stopped for a few minutes due to a malfunction. Tonight the DJ played a song to the end and didn’t mix to the next song. It was either a mistake or they were switching DJ’s in a bad manner. In any way, when the song finished. It was 1.30am, and we all thought the club had closed. We started to regain our composure and started to leave when the music started again !! Amazing…

Coda
Me Joe T and Clare kept on dancing but An was tired so we left. It wasn’t as good, but it’s better than Pavillion for a free night out. On the way back, we walked by Arthouse, and it looked like only the main room was open, which was weird.

Tonight I was drinking at roof bar. It’s my de facto Thursday night watering hole. Around 8pm some people dressed up come into the place. Cheryl recognizes one of them from her high school. There was a dance party tonight, from none other than the UNSW comsoc / lawsoc societies. A few weeks ago myself, Kevin and a friend snuck onto a comsoc party cruise and had a good time, how very funny that I ended up being at the spot of their next event. The host kicked all the students out, but we stayed as we were patrons of Roof Bar. So then the party started…

Event details
Entry: $5 presale, $15 on the door (event was sold out)
Music: RNB
Dress code: Dualities/Doubles. Eg doctor and nurse
Crowd: Uni students, asian.

Timeline
About 9pm people stared coming in. Cheryl spoke to Pearl and Jan. I was introduced along with Ben and Joe, and An. Nobody was dancing yet and music just started so I went down to the floor with Ben, Joe and the girls. Soon enough the crowd warmed up and as more people filed in everyone was dancing away.

I bumped into the girls I met on the cruise a few weeks ago – Amanda, Christine, and a hello to Elizabeth. I really should meet more guys. Anyway, both seemed to be off their faces!

Anyway not much really happened.. Me, Joe and Ben danced with Pearl and Jan most of the night. Most of the night we would see everyone saying hi to each other and dancing with each other.. lots of fun. It’s much different than to a club venue where nobody knows each other. I wore Jan’s angel wings which was pretty cool..

Coda
We left at 11pm so we could catch the train home, ha!

Why did we go?
Usually mention Privilege and me and Joe laugh. Some people love this place. Joe, An, and myself however have certain reservations about it. A while ago I saw my uncle here. The last time I tried to enter with my “free before 11pm” pass, it was rejected as it was 11:10 on her mobile phone while the time on my phone (and watch) said 10:50.

We were at St James having a drink and chatting up Ashley and Srey. They mentioned Privilege. Me and Joe laughed. Then they stood up and started to leave for Privilege!! I had a sick feeling my stomach as we obediently followed them to Privilege..

About Privilege Bar (Club Level)
Location: 70 King Street (Corner of King & George Streets), Ground level of Blacket Hotel
Websites: http://www.theblacket.com/hotel_nightclub.asp , http://www.myspace.com/privilegebar
Inside: Walking downstairs, we are presented with the bar. On the left is the DJ, some podiums. On the right some seats. In the middle is the crowd. The entire place is dark, the music loud, and hot.

About Lotus
Music: RnB
Crowd: Asian
Dress Code: Casual. My dirty white shoes got in.
Cover Charge / Entry Fee: Free before 10:30, $15 Guestlist, $20 non-guestlist
Atmosphere: Dark, loud music with some seediness thrown in. Fun when the dancers come up to perform.

Timeline
Arrival
Ashley knew an organiser and we managed to skip the line and go straight in. Joe had to stay in line and joined us about 30 minutes later.

The mood killer circle
So we got in and formed a little circle. Me, Srey, Ashley and Sophie at first. Later Joe, An and Joe2 join in the affray. I hate circles when I’m trying to crack onto a girl, as everyone else is watching… mostly it was dancing with Srey.. a few twists, twirls and what not.. but it wasn’t enough. She had some nice moves.. but the environment was too loud to push the mood fruther, but at best hold it. Cant even hold a decent conversation. The dancefloor is a mood killer.

Joe’s friend (on crack?) raids the circle
A girl Joe knows jumps through our circle and does some grinding etc etc.. very provocative. Her eyes were closed suggesting she was either drunk, high or on some form of pill. I would hazard a guess at pil. It was really difficult to tell if she was sober or not. After she finished Joe, she wanted to dance with Sophie but Sophie didnt want it. She then did some grinding with me. She probably wasn’t a slut in reality but on the dance moves suggested otherwise. She’s probably a female version of me but without looking like i’ve sniffed something. Cool girl.

Another crazy visitor to the circle
We agreed the next person to walk through the circle would be subject to our little game. I would call it “crush the piggy in the middle as long as they’re crushable and unlikely to fight back”. A few really big guys and angry looking girls went through. Then suddenly I spotted a guy slowly dancing happily. He looked intoxicated. I slowly invited him to the circle. Then we all went “Crush!!”. We surrounded him and jumped up and down as though he were our next sacrifice to the Aztec gods. He then starts to crack onto the girls, and tries some moves. He even did some pushups as part of the routine… I found it funny but a bit awkward.

All the while heaps of guys were checking out / cracking onto Srey and Ashley. Couldnt help but feel a bit jealous. I think I will find a girlfriend who doesnt go to nightclubs.. (ha)

Entertainment
They played sexual healing. I jumped onto one of the two podiums and did some pretty esoteric moves. Then a security guard kicked me off. I was kicked off for the two dancers, who appeared once every two hours during the night to break things up. They were a healthy distration I suppose. They looked Filipino.. but just standing there gawking at them made me feel insignificant. I was jealous.

Music
Good choice, can’t complain. The DJs played just the best bits of a song and move on to the next song as a usual Rnb DJ does. I only didnt like that when they only allowed two repeititions of the Soulja Boy Tellem chorus to play so that we could do the little dance in our circle. We were also getting deaf from the loud music blasting from the speakers that were only 1 or 2 metres away from us at all angles. he small room didnt allow much escape for the ears.

Coda
We got hungry and left. I probably won’t visit again for a while.

It was Hanh’s friend’s birthday. It was also the 2nd open night of Pure. It was also free entry. We were slightly disappointed last time at skygardens, due to the layout of the venue.. maybe if it’s free it’d be better?

About Skygardens
Location: Level 4, Skygarden Shopping Centre, 77 Castlereagh Street Sydney
Website: http://www.roofbar.com.au
Inside: On entry via the elevators you walk onto the dance floor, with a carpeted area between you and the DJ booth about 10 metres long. On the right are some pool tables, and tables/seats in an elevated section. A wooden area sits between these two areas where people usually dance. On the far end lies the bar, while at the very end of the bar is the outdoor smoking area.

About Pure
Occurence: Every Friday and Saturday Nights
Music: “Rnb, hip hop, slow jamz”
Crowd: Mostly Asian
Dress Code: Casual
Cover Charge / Entry Fee: Free
Atmosphere: Bustling.. hard to describe.. I thought it was okay for a free club, my friends didn’t enjoy.

Timeline
Getting in
Theres the normal line and the guestlist line. The lady goes around and asks for our names for the guestlist. We say our names but she can’t find it. Hanh didn’t get our names on the list. She said “Dont worry, its free entry anyway” .. so what’s the point of the guestlist? Probably in case this place reached capacity.

Starting to dance
Since we were first in, it was dead. I wanted to dance, but Joe and An were quite sober. After a few drinks Joe joined me in that ‘booya booya booya’ song. I had the afro on, and not many joined us. Just the two hot girls and guy who were dancing earlier. Soon Hanh, Jon and Kim join us. We keep dancing near the big concrete column separating the carpet from the wooden floor.

Another bride to be gets sandwiched
Spotted a bride celebrating her hens night here… This only meant one thing. She needed a bride sandwich. Joe and I proceeded to sandwich her to the amusement of her friends. She seemed happy then after a while of continuous grinding she kinda felt a bit creeped out and just stepped out lol.

Sweat, baby, sweat
I made the decision not to wear a singlet tonight as it would get hot. Pretty much after an hour half my shirt was soaked in my sweat, which was pretty disgusting.

Entertainment
Surprise! two ladies come up to dance! it was either probably due to the opening weekend.. hope they do this every week.

The big guy
I love seeing people dance. On the carpet was a massive Indian guy, 6 ft something dancing up and down the place like a madman. I saw him jump right into the middle of the hen’s night circle and terrorise the girls. Loved it. I joined him on the carpet and he pulled some moves with me. Fun times.

A minute of silence
The DJ was going well.. until the sound system suddenly stopped. Silence for a minute, then two minutes. The MC was calming the booing crowd, and tried to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to whoever was celebrating tonight. After ‘Happy Birthday’ was sung, there was some more silence, and booing until the DJ got the sound system working again. It pretty much killed the mood and we soon left after.

The only person who asked for the wig
One guy I met in the toilet thought my wig was real until he saw me take it off. He was surprised for sure when I lent it to a girl. Got her pic, and judging by it, it was probably lucky she wasnt keen to go further with it, though her friends encouraged it (note the sweat on my chest):

Coda
We left from tiredness. Friends probably not to return for a bit, I wouldn’t mind this over Pavillion or Cheers if I really wanted free RNB clubbing.

Friday night. One of the remaining ‘Asian’ rnb clubs that I had yet to visit. An and Joe went a few weeks earlier and liked it, so I went along this time.

About Cherrijam
Location: 16-18 Cross Street Double Bay
Website: http://www.cherrijam.com.au
Inside: You are led upstairs where everything is. On entering the top floor, on the left are some sofas.. the right is the dancefloor area and 2 bars. Enough bars to not wait long. The dancefloor area is medium sized.. its good except the concrete poles are in the way near the back. The DJ area is along the far wall with a short, but wide elevated podium (to hold 10 people) in front. There is also a smaller sectioned off room in the far corner with its own bar for private parties. Along the walls are lounges. A classy looking place indeed.

About Fever @ Cherrijam
Music: Rnb
Crowd: Asians, plus a group of older white ladies
Dress Code: Casual. The white sneakers got in.
Cover Charge / Entry Fee: $25. Guestlist $20 (?)
Atmosphere: Sparse

Timeline
First impressions
11.30pm, and forced to line outside… It was a line of 3 people. Should be good. We soon got in, expecting a jam packed place. It was quite empty.. and I simply went straight to the podium to do a dance in front of the 10 people dancing and the 20 or so standing by the sidelines. Right away one of the pretty girls started to touch my wig.. the hair looked very cool. We were right in front of the speakers so there wasnt really a chance of a conversation happening. Some of the older white girls had a few glances at me… i decided i was going to dance with them later.

What did she say?
So later, two of the older girls get on the floor and dance .. and myself, being so full of confidence walked up and boogied behind one of them, while the other saw me. I did a very close proximity dance where i went from her left and right about 4 times.. then i ran off, expecting a few giggles…. “DON’T DO THAT!”

Well that’s what i heard. I think that’s what came out of her mouth. I could feel the icy cold air hit me, and so did the others as they cracked up laughing at my obvious receiving of abuse from this lady.. who obviously didn’t like hot, modest men popping out of nowhere and doing a bit of boogie right behind her without her knowledge. She then concluded the outburst with the meanest death glare she could muster.. which was quite cold, then turned back. Wow. I just stood there. I hadn’t felt so shocked since I tried to break into a conversation of two girls coming straight out of the toilet, as one of them told me to ‘f*ck off go away now’. I was pretty wasted at that time, so that’s my excuse. I digress… Nethertheless my mood went down a bit.

Music
We had an MC and the DJ going at it with the rnb beats. The MC added some fun (as they usually do) to the otherwise dead room. The tunes were good, but perhaps the DJ could have played out each song longer.. instead of doing the main lines from each song.

Entertainment (Savage)
Tonight, we had special guests Savage from New Zealand. I didn’t even realise. Tonight wasn’t obviously promoted well, as the last time I saw these guys were when they were the pre-show act for Snoop Dogg. They sung for about 20 or so minutes.. I did feel slightly sorry as the crowd was only 2 or 3 people deep around the podium area, especially as they started chanting to both sides of the crowd “fuck you over there.. the party’s over here” (I think that’s how the chant went) .. people only knew their final song performance. Once they finished they left pretty quickly.

More dirties
We spent $25 to get in, so we all just made the most of it and danced away on the podium. I saw two girls dancing near the stairs going nuts. I decided to join them but avoid the mistake of popping out right behind their asses. So I went up and did a jiggle boogie in front of one of them when she was alone. She absolutely freaked and gave me the death stare like “you freaking wierdo get away from me” and she stormed off, not happy sexy old me crashed her party. Wow. Could be a Cherrijam thing? It was probably my sudden appearance in front of her. Oh well.

Claire gets the dirty too
Me and Claire did lots of dancing on the now crowded podium, with crazy claire constantly bumping the indian girl next to her. Half the timeshe was shielding her head from Claires elbow, giving her dirties. Claire was totally ignorant and never noticed a thing. Quite amusing.

Coda
Most of the girls went, so we all left. I was ok with the experience, but I wouldn’t be rushing back. Joe, An disappointed as well. Better luck next time.. as we agreed next time to only go on a promoted night if we were to go back to Cherrijam.

I spent a lot this week, so I was going for a tight ass night. To make sure of this, I went on my own because as we all learned a few weeks ago, lazy friends will otherwise pick the closest club and you gotta pay premium. Not that I’m against my friends – I’ve promised to go clubbing with them next week. So in my world tonight, I was entitled for a tight ass night.

Initial attack: Create a guestlist for UN Nightclub. Line up at 9.30 and get in before 10.30 for free. (A few weeks ago, lining up at 10pm was a bad idea since the line was already 1 hour long).
Guestlist was confirmed (www.chocolatesydney.com) and I was set to go.

9.20 pm – UN Nightclub
An walked me to UN nightclub for company. We got there and surprisingly, there was no line at all! woopee! We sat down on some stairs a few metres away.

9.40pm – The line up begins

2 girls and another group suddenly rush to the door and stand there lining up. It was time to join the early bird line. I was the third “group” to get there. I was probably 7th in line. Nice. Even if they open the doors at 10.20 and let one person in per minute I could still get in free.

10pm – Worried

It was time to open up the gates. The bouncers didn’t do it.

Meanwhile, the group in front of me grows to about 12 as they let their friends in. I really hate that. I’m about 15th in line. Still good. Meanwhile the bouncers let these other people in without them having to line up. Supposed VIP’s I guess. They even let in a group of guys dressed up in their G-Unitesque clothing right in. Disgrace.

THEY FINALLY OPEN UP – 10.15pm

By now, the general mood of everyone was pretty pissed off since we’d been waiting so long, and that they were supposed to ‘open’ at 10pm. Trust emails for that. So what happened? They let SEVEN people in and closed us off again !! This is totally tight ass (yes, I see the irony), but seriously – I’ve been out here about an hour now.

10.35 (1 hr in line) - Fuck off you tight ass mongrels. I’m not giving my money tonight
They still didn’t let anyone in yet, while they still let some more VIP guys in. Fuck. I’m pissed. I missed out on my free entry. Wasted an hour of my life standing in one fucking position. My feet were fucking tired. I want my fucking hour back. Seems like the guest list is just a placeholder for a $15 entry and to still force you to come. I left the line which, by now, had grown to a very long one. The people around me in the line were probably surprised I gave up the ghost after waiting for so long. Hey guys, even Space nightclub lets people free flow into the damn place after around 10.10pm. For shame!!
So yes, my reader, I am so serious about tonight being a tight ass night.

Cheers Nightclub ~11pm
I have never been here. All I knew was that it was:
- Asianfobby
- Free
Got there, and basically went right in – no line.

About Cheers Nightclub Friday Nights:
Located on George St near Liverpool St. It’s a bar during the day and is situated underground.Upon walking down the stairs you are presented with a small-medium sized room. In the middle is the dance floor – it’s pretty small but its packed. A bar lies on one of the walls, lounges on the other side.

Music:
Tonight was RnB and some commercial house later in the evening for about 30 minutes. There is no DJ. Instead the TV screens on 3 walls play the video clips while the music is pumped out. It is not as loud as a typical nightclub but loud enough to make you yell when speaking to someone else.

Atmosphere: Crowded and busy with a bit of fun.

Crowd: Mostly Asian crowd but there were a mix of other nationalities too. Most of the Asians are here from overseas – I couldn’t recall hearing an Asian there with a proper Australian accent.

Experiences: Well I danced for a bit. The music wasn’t anything special. Initially only about half the people standing on the floor were actually dancing, as there was nowhere else to stand. Around midnight people started to get into the dancing mood.

It got crowded. The bouncers did not relent in releasing more people into the club. It got so crowded that I couldn’t find a free open space to dance around, and was dancing on the carpeted area. Then even more people came in. I couldn’t take it so I left to go to pavilion.

Pavillion Hotel (~12.30pm)
Being Friday, Pavillion wasn’t going to be packed. It wasn’t. I bumped into Kevin who I got to know at a VSA Camp in 2006. He was there for Susan’s birthday, another girl I met at the camp. She didn’t recognize me. Couldn’t blame her – it’s been a year since that camp, her face was red and she was off her chops.

The vibe was pretty dead but I had some time to dance and look at myself in the mirrored wall behind the DJ. I didn’t last long.

Cheers again (~1pm)
Ok I went back. They were playing house. Thank god. I went nuts when they played that Chemical Brothers song. I forgot how it goes, but I’m sure you know which one. It’s the video clip where the Arabians are in the desert nodding their heads to the music. Awesome stuff.
Then after a few good house songs, they played the rnb again. Crap. I left again.

3 Wise Monkeys (~1.30pm)
Went outside of Cheers and looked to my left. There was 3 Wise Monkeys standing there. The line.. 5 people. Easy logical choice.

About 3 Wise Monkeys Pub:
Corner of George St and Liverpool St. 2 or 3 levels of pub, pub and live gig area. Only the top floor had music.
Music:

It was a live band The Wildcatz, who seemingly play there every week. Last time I saw The Wildcatz was a long time ago on a Public Holiday. They do classic rock cover songs, and now have a new female member who does all the female rock songs by artists such as Pink.

Atmosphere:
Packed and humid. Humid as in the moment you walk up the stairs and reach the top, you HAVE to take off your jacket or jumper. The BO wall of humidity just hits you. Maybe they should have made an exception to the non-smoking laws at the 3 wise monkeys pub. I’d rather put up with the ciggies instead of breathing in the combined sweat and body odour of about 100 people.

Crowd:
Mostly White Australian/British. Spots of Asian and Indian. Crowd was very friendly and very into the music. Everyone singing along, while the people at the very front jump up and down, and do whatever you do.

Leaving (~2am)
I did some dancing, but really, I simply got too hot too quickly. I picked up my jumper off the floor to leave and was confronted by some guy. He thought I was stealing his jumper. I had to tell him it was mine and my tie matched the damn jumper. He finally let me go. Wasn’t in the mood – I just wanted to get out of this stinkplace.
Mind you, only the live area is a stinkhole. The lower levels are at quite normal temperatures and humidity for a pub.

Coda
What a crap night. Loved it though as I spent nothing.

Lessons Learned:
-You have little chance of getting the free entry promotion. The free entry deal is only there to suck you in and make you pay anyway to get in, since you lined up for so long. I can’t believe it took me so long to realise this. It’s a shame that the irregular clubber will probably not know. UN is still a good club though otherwise.

-The Anti Smoking laws may not have been a good thing after all.

Leadup:
Invited by Selvi who put me on a guestlist. Joe and Meiny were to go as well. Hanh warned me it was going to be crap since lots of guys will be there to see Jeri Lee. I had a nice time last time (which was a long time ago), and I had nowhere else to go. So I decided to head to Skygardens @ Roof Bar. So was it going to be good or just another sausage fest/crap night?

I find out soon enough…

About Skygardens @ roof bar
This was a one off event, as Skygardens is rarely open these Saturday nights.

Cover Charge: Free before 10.30 if on guestlist. Otherwise it’s $15. $20 if no guestlist.

Crowd: Dominantly Asian

Location: Roof Bar, <st1:street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">Elizabeth St</st1:address></st1:street> entry. Same building as the centrepoint tower. 4th level.

Taking the elevator up, you are presented with a half carpeted half wooden dancefloor. Most people are dancing on the wooden area as it is also more well lit and closer to the bar.

The actual wooden part of the floor is shown here in the picture. Gives rise to a cosy dance floor.

The bar is out back opposite the entry point. On the right are lounges and pool tables. It’s much of a sit down and go affair.

Music: Rnb. The DJ got away with playing a few commercial house tracks at around 2am.

Atmosphere: Was quite busy but didn’t quite reach a maximum capacity and may have seemed dead at times. The small dance area with people criss crossing did make it appear busy to me anyway.

At peak crowd (taken from the bar). Clubbers throughout are lined by watchers, who are waiting for Jeri Lee.

My timeline

Why you shouldn’t come early to line up part I:
Selvi told me to line up at 9.30 to guarantee free entry. I ran a bit late and got there 10pm. The line was reasonable. About 20 people ahead of me. I should still be able to get in free. I stand and wait. I was expecting to be kicked out for having no girls, but for some reason the security didn’t check this time. Hmm.

Late comers arrive and they are redirected to make a new line. The door crew finally let us in slowly, however they the latecomers line is released as well! This was not right. I WAITED 30 DAMN MINUTES AND THAT LUCKY LATE BASTARD OVER THERE GETS TO WAIT WHAT 2 MINUTES AND GETS IN BEFORE ME??? HELLO WE WERE HERE FIRST! HELLO!! Man, what a jib. Hope I can still get in free…

That Jason guy.
I want to whinge. I look at the two guys behind me chatting. One of them is Jason the solo bum dancer. What?! Bamboo is where he’s supposed to be! God, he’s everywhere that guy. Maybe he knows about this blog and is stalking me. I don’t know. Eventually we start conversing. His friend is Mike. Mike’s here for Jeri Lee, me and Jason are here to dance. I guess that Jason is in his mid 20′s or later, since he starts to talk about the old days of Cave nightclub (Star City), and all these other places and DJ’s I haven’t heard of. He seems like a nice guy. I keep whinging about how I just want to get in before 10.30.

Why you shouldn’t come early to line up part II:
The clock strikes 10.30 – AND IM STILL IN LINE. AND YOU KNOW WHAT. THE BASTARDS LET SO MANY 2ND LINE LATE COMERS IN. I WAS ONLY 5 PEOPLE AWAY FROM GETTING IN. FOR FUCKS SAKE!! This was the greatest fucking injustice that an honest man lining up has had to face!! FUCK!!

I see Selvi walk by. She’s just arrived, and I madly wave at her. Im pissed off and I want her to hook me up for my free entry. She says she can’t do much and goes in for free and waits for me. So not fair.. she didn’t have to wait at all!

I finally get to the counter at 10.40. I whinge about lining up for so long. The girls giggle and say they’ll give me $5 for drinking money. How cute but I still have to pay up! I was confused when they actually did give me $5! I wanted to give it back, but it took me a few seconds to realize that the $5 was actually change after I gave them $20. VERY FUNNY. HAHAHA. NOT.

Jason gets a daring message. Somehow me and Jason are dancing and cheering each other on. He gets all the crowd attention though when he starts to promiscually dance with inanimate objects and the walls throughout the night. Disturbingly funny, which I guess what the intended reaction was. There are just some people you can’t outdance, so I got no attention at all.

Later we’re dancing late in the night. Jason gets his own little circle of watchers. Someone then comes in the circle and does a robot kind of thing, which was pretty funny. He’s waving his hands, then, as a final robotic move, he robotically sticks his middle finger in front of Jaso — WOA!! That was funny scary. Funny in the way it was executed. Scary in the way that there was no reason to do it, and seeing Jason before (search for ‘jason defends his ground’), we don’t know how Jason will react…

Jason and I. We both need haircuts.

Jason strikes back
Jason went nuts. On the dancefloor that is. What was some innocent guy dancing away turned into a monster of a child. Jason did some spinning, did some kicking, and more. What did it for me was when he sat on the ground, feet in front, and he jumped up and down on his butt, causing him to propel forwards with every bump. That was the most beautiful move I had ever seen. Jason finished it off by standing up and giving the guy a slicing of the throat gesture. Crazy critter. The robot guy must’ve pissed his pants, because he immediately walked away with his girlfriend hanging off his arm. Jason low-5′d me and I congratulated him on the public slaughtering.

What’s the time again Mister MC?

“Jeri Lee will be coming in shortly” Oh, I can’t wait !

.. 20 minutes later: “Jeri will be here very shortly”

.. Another 20 minutes later: “Jeri will be here in 20 minutes!”

.. (20 minutes later) “Jeri will be here very shortly ” (I hope she’s sick, because I already am)

About half an hour later she finally arrives…

Jeri Lee has sexy hair and can dance

She stood up and danced for 3 or 4 songs. She took every opportunity to shake her boobs and butt. They were fake but nobody was caring about that. She had hot long hair to me. Love a girl with nice long hair. The other two girls were basically dry humping each other. That was hot.Eventually it got a bit boring staring at someone shake their body for the entertainment of men. I became immune somewhat to the flesh display in front of me. For her second set, I stood back behind the crowd and noticed everyone was staring at her. No cheering or dancing. Just some good, old, perversion. I realised how lame this looked and tried to dance. It was next to impossible to dance as well as perve at Jeri at the same time, no wonder.

Check out my dodgy video at (new window) : http://www.youtube.com/v/vEip_HZkAZk

Can she lead these horses to clap too?
Jeri clapped her hands, then the MC screamed for us to clap our hands too. Me Joe and Meiny clapped.. But nobody in the crowd in front was clapping at all. Jeri didn’t even last 10 claps before she gave up herself and went back to what she did best – dancing like she was about to rip her clothes off, but leaving it on.

She must have been dying, wondering why she wasn’t getting her beauty sleep instead of dancing in front of a bunch of horny guys who were standing there, eye raping her. Eventually she got tired and hopped off, not before giving out sultry photos of herself – the guys were crazy for the photos. It was the only time the crowd went truly wild. The things we do for free things.

Jason left at 2am – to go to Bamboo! Nutbag! I guess he didn’t like being upstaged by 3 hot girls. We left shortly after.

Lessons learned
Line up super early because if a line has the potential to turn into two lines, you will be fucked. Don’t fuck with someone who can dance. Models like to come late to things.

Summary
I probably would not recommend asian Skygardens events anymore to anyone. It’s such a great place to go to but somehow it lacked that something. Lacking in people?
